Earth Kingdom

Board Threads Posts Last Post
No New Posts Ba Sing Se

Ba Sing Se was the capital of the Earth Kingdom. It withstood a six-hundred day siege led by the Fire Nation's General Iroh, which ended after Iroh's son, Lu Ten, died on the front lines and Iroh was in too much in grief to continue. After King Bumi surrendered Omashu, Ba Sing Se was the last great Earth Kingdom stronghold and the last real barrier against the Fire Nation's advance. Uncle Iroh has described the city's wall as "grand". As shown in the Comic Convention 2006, Ba Sing Se is an enormous city with several rock-like monorails, similarly to the ones in Omashu although greatly scaled up and more sedate. The "cars" are moved by Earthbending.

No New Posts Omashu

The city of Omashu sits within a mountain range, surrounded on all sides by steep canyons and an enormous gorge. The cities' three gates are composed from massive stone, each five feet thick and towering over thirty feet high. As a result are accessible only by skilled Earthbenders who guard its only entrance. It is ruled by King Bumi and holds the place of being the Earth Kingdom's second largest city. Omashu's main industry was producing weapons and supplies for the war effort, and had developed a complex and efficient mail system used to transport goods throughout the city that employed Earthbending and gravity using extensive ramps and chutes.

No New Posts Kyoshi Island

One of the islands off the southern coast of the Earth Kingdom, Kyoshi Island is an island founded in the South Sea by Avatar Kyoshi to protect her people from invaders. It has a shrine (formerly a temple) dedicated to Kyoshi that contains her relics, including her kimono, metal fans, metal headdress, and her boots. Supposedly, these relics still embody some of Kyoshi's spirit. In the nearby sea, there are Elephant Koi, which serve as the island's main source of commerce, and a giant eel known as the Unagi. The island is known as the home of the Kyoshi Island Warriors, who fight with metal fans in the same techniques as the island's namesake Avatar, as well as a fighting style that emulates the Waterbender's philosophy of using the opponents' force against them.

Water Tribes

Board Threads Posts Last Post
No New Posts North Pole

Hidden within the North Pole, the Northern Water Tribe is an incredible contrast to the decimated Southern Water Tribe. Thanks to the treacherous landscape and strength of the tribe's many warriors & waterbenders, the Northern Water Tribe has been able to survive the war so far. The inner city is built from thick walls of ice and the intricate water streets are very similar to the Italian city of Venice. There seems to be plenty of food, good economy, and the culture is very intact. Some of their traditions include that women aren't allowed to learn waterbending, and they probably aren't allowed to fight in the war either. However, women in the tribe who can waterbend are sent to Yugota to learn how to use their gift for healing. Another tradition is the engagement necklace - instead of a ring, a man will carve something into a blue pendant that will be worn by his betrothed. There are also arranged marriages.

Points of interest: The city is gorgeous, and the culture is... interesting. There's plenty to see and learn about, and there's also adorable creatures, like the koala-otter.

No New Posts South Pole

The southern most continent is home to many wintry animals and what remains of the Southern Water Tribe. The Fire Nation in their quest for world domination destroyed what use to be a magnificent city of ice. Since then, the tribe has lived in igloos and tents hidden in the snow in attempt to stay under the Fire Nation's radar.

Air Nomads

No New Posts Northern Air Temple

High in the upper reaches of the Earth Kingdom resides the Northern Air Temple. It was home to the Flying Bison polo championships in the days when the monks lived in it. After the extermination of the monks, the temple was rediscovered by the Mechanist and his group of refugees. The Northern Temple was modified by the Mechanist to house more people than before, and many of the original structures were destroyed or expanded to help accommodate the new residents. The temple also underwent many technological "upgrades", as the Mechanist added new inventions to help make the lives of the residents easier. The new changes anger Aang at first, who sees it as a violation of the temple's original sanctity, but in the end he decides that the refugees are like the hermit crabs that inhabit the temple's corridors, and is happy that they have found this empty shell and made it their home, and helps to defend them against the Fire Nation.

No New Posts Southern Air Temple

Located in the remote Patola mountain range (Air Nomad Territory), the Southern, Jongmu Air Temple, supposedly only accessible via flying bison. The temple is large and peaceful, has an Air Ball arena, and is also where the "Air Scooter" was first invented by Aang. The temple itself primarily served as a training ground for Airbender students. Once inhabited by Flying Bison and Winged Lemurs in the days of the monks, it is now barren and abandoned by humans and animals alike. As a result of being built for and by the monks, several of the temples' doors and mechanisms are operable only through means of airbending. A statue of Monk Gyatso stands at the entrance to the temple. Unlike the other two temples shown, the Southern Temple's spires are blue, instead of green.

No New Posts Eastern Air Temple

Along with the Western Air Temple, it exclusively housed female Airbenders and was home to Sister Iio. This temple was destroyed by the Fire Nation. Unlike the Northern and Southern Air temples, the Eastern Air temple is housed on three mountains.
